WORKSHOP: Advanced Communication and Presentation Skills

This workshop will focus on how to impress others with your communication and presentation skills. You’ll learn why the following are important as well as have an opportunity to practice mastering the art of:

Advanced Communication

  • Understanding your audience and shaping your communication for your audience
  • Crafting messages and delivery styles to achieve your ends
  • Recognizing when conveying information is insufficient and motivating or inspiring is crucial
  • Motivating and inspiring others
  • Using of silence, so it works with a speaker not against
  • Using variations in pacing, emphasis, volume, eye contact, and questions
  • Using communication to find common ground
  • Gesturing that augments impact not diminishes it

 

Presentation

  • Recognizing the special demands of informal and formal presentations and shaping communication accordingly
  • Preparing for powerful presentations
    • Know one’s audience
    • Identify key messages
    • Develop memorable examples, metaphors, analogies
    • Focus on telling a story
    • Relate presentation to goals/vision
    • Use memorable facts
    • Practice, practice, practice, especially in front of someone who knows your audience
    • Listen to feedback on how one comes across and modify style accordingly
    • Sleep well, eat healthy food, and drink water
  • Presenting effectively
    • What questions to ask
    • How to introduce presentation
    • When to focus on audience
    • How to convey confidence and passion
    • When to pause
    • Why number and sum up points
    • How emphasize key points
